NOTE: THIS IS AN ALPHA TEST VERSION. PLEASE NOTIFY THE SYSOP
IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEMS.
The Mycroft Casino is a collection of casino games for your
enjoyment. You can consult a book on gambling games if you are
unfamiliar with any of the games or read the meager documentation
provided here. The keyboard usage requires that you set your
NumLock and then use the numeric/cursor keypad. The following is
a list of keys used in the Mycroft Casino:

The following sections are a brief description of the various
casino games and other menu options.
High/Low
========
High/Low is a real simplistic game. You can bet that the card
you draw will be either higher or lower than a 7. A 7 will always
result in the house winning. You may select any of the 3 cards.
The Ace cards are always low in the game of High/Low.
Baccarat
========
Baccarat is the gambling game of the rich. In a casino you can
bet either for or against the house when you are watching others
play. In the Mycroft Casino you will always be playing and are
thus betting against the house. The object of Baccarat is to get
as close as possible to 9. Each player is dealt 2 cards. If the
total is 10 or greater then 10 is subtracted from the total so
that the total is always one digit. You may optionally take a
second card, with again the roll back to a single digit, but you
may have no more than 3 cards. The Ace always counts as 1 and
face cards count as 0. In the Mycroft Casino, the house will win
on a push.
Draw Poker
==========
The Mycroft Casino Draw Poker game is identical, except for the
payouts, to the draw poker machines found in the casinos. The
payouts are listed in the menus. The object is to achieve 'Jacks
or Better'. Anything less will lose. You are dealt 5 cards. You
may keep any or all of these cards. Selecting a card will toggle
it between a discard, shown as the card back, or the cards you
wish to keep. When done select the draw option and you will be
dealt a new set of cards to replace those you are discarding. You
may only discard once per hand. The computer will automatically
tally your hand and pay you appropriately.
Keno
====
The Mycroft Casino Keno game is exactly like the standard Kenos
found in the various casinos with the exception of the payouts
and that you do not control how many numbers you wish to play. In
the game you will be allowed to select 6 numbers. Once the sixth
number is chosen the computer will automatically select the 20
numbers you are trying to match. You must match at least three
numbers in order to win. Selecting numbers is done by moving the
cursor using the numeric keypad and then selecting them with the
SPACE or ENTER keys. The select option works as a toggle, so you
may change your mind up to the point you select the sixth number.
Blackjack
=========
The Mycroft Casino Blackjack is identical to the standard casino
version with one exception. This Blackjack will allow you to win
with a '5 Card Charlie'. A '5 Card Charlie' is when you have a
total of less than or equal to 21 with 5 cards. The dealer does
not win on a '5 Card Charlie' and will simply stop taking cards
and play the total he has. The '5 Card Charlie' is used due to
the lack of space for additional cards. This Blackjack game will
also not allow you to 'split' identical cards. Again this is due
to lack of screen space. You may 'Double Down' only on the 1st
card and if your total is 10 or 11.
For those unfamilliar with Blackjack, the option is to get as
close as possible to 21 without going over. Aces count as either
1 or 11. You may keep taking cards until you either stop, 'bust'
(go over 21), or achieve a '5 Card Charlie'. The dealer will
then have the same options except that he will automatically stop
when he passes above 16. If the dealer is showing an Ace after
the cards are dealt, then you may buy 'insurance'. This is a
small side bet equal to exactly half of your main bet. It is a
way to protect your investment. After the cards are dealt, and
if you have a total of 10 or 11, you may 'double down'. This is
a special way of doubling your bet. Your wager is doubled and
you are dealt exactly one card and may take no more.
Horse Racing
============
The Horse Racing game is a simplistic little horse race. Each
race consists of 5 horses. Each horse runs at odds between 1/1
and 4/1. The lower the odds the better the horses chances are at
winning the race. Unlike real racing, all bets are 'To Win' and
the game will not accept 'Place' or 'Show' bets. There are also
no 'Pick 6' or 'Exacta' races.
Select Message Delay
====================
The Mycroft Casino allows you the user to control the amount of
time messages are displayed before they are erased. This menu
will allow you to select a value between 1 and 5. You may wish
to set this to a high value at first and then cut back when you
are used to the games.
Select Graphics Mode
====================
The Mycroft Casino will allow you to change your initial graphics
setting from the first time you entered the door. This menu will
provide you with the same 4 choices.
Epilogue
========
Well thats it for now. If you have more questions on the various
games I am sure you can find help at the library in a book on the
various gambling games. I hope you enjoy the games as much or
more than I had in writing them. Future versions may provide
additional gambling games if the feedback from the game is good.
Thanks,
